Selfmade doors for existing bookcase by Cheryl

In this DIY project, Cheryl shows how she made doors for an existing open bookcase in the bedroom of her son. She used MDF with a black melamine face, which was cut to size by us. Read the article below to discover her approach for this project.

We had wall to wall bookcases in my son's new bedroom, collecting dust and distracting the eye. Plus there was nowhere to put a poster of a Delorean! With a dust allergy, I knew I had to do something, and fast. I found a great wood product on this website with a black melamine face. Measuring was the hardest part. We have an old house and the doors on the right were 1cm taller than those on the left because of wonky ceilings. The doors arrived beautifully labelled with the dimensions so I could compare them against my plan easily and customer service was amazing. I could even choose my delivery day.

Featuring 30 made to measure doors, over 1000 screws, 74 piano hinges, 30 magnets, 30 door handles, 20 meters of iron-on melamine edging tape, countless washers... it was priceless to be able to astound my husband and father in law that everything fit perfectly. (I knew it would). I never thought DIY would involve ironing... but adding the edging to the rough edges was extremely satisfying. My son is extremely happy to be able to close away his books, and hang his Delorean posters. Amazing job opmaatzagen.nl! And high five to mama!
