Inspiration for your own display cabinet and TV cabinet

Do you also dream of a handmade TV cabinet that seamlessly transitions into a practical shelving unit? Silke realized this inspiring DIY project using materials from TOSIZE.be. On this page we take a look at Silke's creative process, in which miter sawing and the Lamello technique played key roles in the creation of a harmonious design.

Detail of the project

The cabinet, which Silke has placed in her living room, exudes a unique sense of individuality and style. With the choice of a neutral colour palette and the sleek lines, the shelving unit fits in perfectly with the rest of the interior. The seamless mitered edges and the reinforcement using Lamello joints make the whole not only aesthetically attractive, but also sturdy and durable.

Make your own bookcase and TV cabinet

By choosing to build it yourself, Silke had complete freedom in the dimensions, which allowed her cabinet and TV furniture to fit optimally in the available space. In addition, the choice to saw it herself resulted in significant cost savings. TOSIZE.be delivered the MDF in precise dimensions, so that Silke only had to assemble it according to her own insight.

Advantages of self-build

Making a project like this shelving unit and TV cabinet yourself, besides saving money, also offers you the opportunity to let your creativity run free. You decide on the colours, finish and design yourself, so that the project is completely made to your liking.

The finishing of the project

This DIY project by Silke presents a modern and minimalist style that fits in well with contemporary interior trends. The matte green color of the base cabinet combines elegantly with the neutral tone of the upper compartments. The whole forms a calm background for decorative objects and everyday items.

The choice for MDF

Let’s talk a bit about the materials used. MDF, which stands for Medium-Density Fibreboard, is a versatile product that is perfect for DIY projects like this one. MDF Primed 18mm and 12mm formed the base for the furniture, while MDF Clear 3mm was used for the fine finish.

MDF Primed 18 mm

This material is ideal as a solid base. The pre-primed layer ensures that you can start painting immediately, saving time and effort.

MDF Blank 3 mm

This thin variant of MDF lends itself perfectly to detailed finishes and gives a professional-looking finish to any project.

MDF Primed 12 mm

A slightly thinner sheet that provides subtlety in design without sacrificing strength. This one is also pre-primed for a simplified finish.
