Description of Ildiko
For the bedroom we wanted Underlayment doors. We also wanted to make optimal use of the upper space above the cupboard. I made this with sheet material from TOSIZE.be. Then I made a structure with separate doors. This was mainly because the wood we wanted was not available in the full height as a length. It now looks more like a built-in cupboard (still some small details need to be finished) and it is immediately a lot less messy and the cats can no longer reach it. Handy!
How I made this project
Everything measured, unfortunately with the large cabinet it would have been more convenient to deduct half a centimeter from the width, since the doors are now difficult to close (that will happen another time). We ordered hinges via Amazon together with a drill and drilling template for the hinges and everything was provisionally secured with tape and at the bottom to strips during the DIY for marking. This was the first time that I took on such a large project and learned a lot!
Dimensions of my DIY project
Measure the space between the ceiling and the cabinet and subtract the thickness of the wood (we used 18mm) plus a 2mm margin so that it does not become too high. The depth of the cabinet is the length of the side panels and the length + depth is your top panel and voilà you have a top cabinet. We have an Ikea cabinet of 100cm and one of 75cm wide so for the cabinet doors think half a cm off and then divide by 2 so that they can close neatly.
