Park light | Oosterpark light festival

Description

An art installation for the Parklicht light festival in the Oosterpark in Amsterdam. The whole thing looked as if a rectangle had been 'cut out' from the pond and replaced a little further away. Negative and positive captured in one image.

How did you create your work?

I placed a black perspex plate (Space Odyssey monolith size) in the middle of the pond in the garden of the Tropical Institute. The plate lay on the surface of the water and was illuminated at the bottom, making it appear even blacker than it already was. At the end of the pond there was a plate of the same size; it was transparent and white lighted water continuously ran along it. The work was in the pond of the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam from October 13 to November 3.

What were the dimensions?

The plate had the standard dimensions of MDF Black V313, namely 1220 x 2440 mm.
