Description by Liz
In our new kitchen we had an empty space next to the refrigerator and the oven. Previously there was a cove here for all kinds of pipes, but this was removed during the installation of the new kitchen. By removing the cove we were able to create a number of shelves in this newly created niche. This way we get extra storage space. Useful! Because we have other elements in the kitchen that are made of walnut, we chose walnut carpentry panels for the shelves. Lighting in the shelves completes the whole.
How I made this project
I milled slots in the shelves into which I could sink LED strips. This way they are nicely concealed. I made the cables for the lighting disappear at the end of the shelves in the back wall (see last photo). Finally, we oiled the planks to make them water and dirt repellent. We hung the shelves using small, not too noticeable shelf brackets that we attached to the side walls.
Dimensions of my DIY project
The walnut shelves have a size of 26.0 x 32.0 cm. Thickness is 26mm.
