Worktop workbench
Making a workbench from Plywood is a great project. A worktop for your workbench is the basis for all the DIY projects that follow and therefore a good reason to pay attention to it. With frequent use, the workbench gets quite a bit of wear and tear. Plywood Hardwood is an incredibly strong material and it can take a beating. It can also withstand a somewhat damp room, such as a shed.

Different types of plywood
Plywood consists of several layers of wood veneer. These layers are glued together crosswise, making the panel very strong and barely warpable. These are therefore directly the advantages of Plywood compared to solid wood, which is why it is often used in constructions or for furniture. For example, for a Multiplex worktop in the kitchen or for a workbench in the shed. Because of the layers, the end edges of Plywood are beautiful to look at and are often kept in sight.
The direction of the wood grain
With plywood, a wood grain can be seen. The grain is always longitudinal. When sawing the board, we maintain that the length dimension is also the length direction of the wood grain. If you have this material cut and delivered to your home by TOSIZE.be, make sure when filling in the measurements that the grain of the wood all runs in the right direction! This looks great if you choose to make a Multiplex worktop yourself. If you make a worktop from a single sheet, this does not apply.
Quality indication for plywood
Plywood comes in different qualities. This does not mean that the panel is more or less strong, it indicates the quality of the appearance of the panel. The interior birch plywood we supply is a standard B/BB quality, which means that the front side (B) is the flawless side and very suitable for visible work. In this, knots and colour differences are visible to a minimum extent. The reverse side (BB) is of a slightly lower quality, in which more knots are visible and any irregularities have been repaired by means of propping. Need more information? Plywood Hardwood
Plywood Hardwood is the moisture-resistant variant of interior plywood. It is waterproof glued and the hardwood enhances its moisture-resistant qualities. Ideal for a worktop in the kitchen that must be able to withstand a little moisture. Because different types of tropical hardwood are used in a board or batch, the boards may differ slightly in colour and the risk of warping is minimal.
Okoumé plywood Waterproof / Primed
Okoumé plywood Waterproof is the variant that is resistant to moisture and is therefore used for outdoor applications or in damp rooms. Think of a worktop for a workbench in the shed. Like Multiplex Interior Birch, the board is glued with a waterproof glue. Okoumé, however, is the wood species that is more resistant to moisture, making this variant more suitable for outdoor applications. But you can of course also choose the board for its attractive pink-red colour and the fact that it is easy to work with. The primed variant already has a primer, so you can quickly get started painting your project.
HPL
Plywood with an HPL top layer is plywood on which a plastic layer of phenolic resin is pressed under high pressure. This layer protects the plywood against moisture, dirt and knocks. In the case of a worktop, it is a good idea to choose a material that can withstand rough handling. An alternative to Plywood HPL is Phenolic Plywood. This is very strong and flat material and very suitable.
Plywood Birch
Mulitplex birch is the most popular form of Multiplex Interior because it is the best choice in terms of quality. It is waterproof glued as standard and has a distinct wood grain compared to Multiplex Poplar. Moreover, birch is a wood species that is much harder than poplar. So it can take a beating! This also makes the material more durable. You can use Multiplex Birch for a worktop in the kitchen or a workbench, for example.
Interior plywood Poplar / Primed
Plywood Interior Poplar is the lightweight variant of Multiplex. So when weight is a factor in your project, this is the perfect choice! Applications for which Plywood Interior Poplar can be used are interior carpentry, such as cladding walls or making enclosures. A worktop that does not have to bear heavy weight, for example a desk, can therefore be made from Interior Plywood Poplar. If you want to make a kitchen worktop or workbench, you're better off choosing the other plywood variants. The primed variant already has a primer layer so you can quickly get started painting your project.
Plywood thicknesses

Treating plywood
It is important that you pre-treat the material properly, especially if you want to use the Multiplex worktop in the kitchen or in the shed. Do you want to preserve the natural look of Plywood? Then use a transparent lacquer, oil or stain. Is it important for you to only see the wood grain in the Multiplex worktop or Multiplex kitchen fronts? Then you can treat the material with an oil, stain or lacquer in the colour that suits your interior. This way, the material remains well protected against the effects of temperature differences and moisture and you can enjoy the work you have done to give your kitchen a metamorphosis for longer.
Want to know how to properly treat the end edges of Multiplex kitchen fronts? Use an edge sealer to make the end edges of Plywood moisture-resistant. This also applies to the worktop or a wall shelf you put in the kitchen.
Finishing worktop
To prevent sharp edges, we can round off the end edges of your plywood. At TOSIZE.be, you can also have your material provided with an edge finish. Simply choose which edges you would like to have rounded and with which radius. This way, you ensure a nice finish without having to rework it yourself. It is a subtle finish that really finishes off the worktop in every detail.
