MDF tricoya: what is it?
MDF tricoya is an extremely durable sheet material suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. It is easy to machine and will last for years. If you treat the material well, even for decades! MDF tricoya has a dark brown colour. You can finish the material with a colour of your choice, but this is not necessary. The material can also be used unfinished.
The homogeneous structure makes MDF less sensitive to shrinkage and expansion at varying temperatures compared to other sheet materials. In MDF tricoya, the wood fibres are acetylated. This is a special treatment which makes the fibres much more resistant to moisture. An MDF sheet is composed of dried wood fibres and glue. These wood fibres are then pressed together under high pressure and temperatures to form an MDF sheet. With MDF tricoya, a special moisture-resistant adhesive is used. To strengthen its moisture-resistant properties, the material is compressed under a higher pressure compared to MDF natural.
Available thicknesses of MDF tricoya
MDF can be ordered in different thicknesses. You can easily specify your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way you can be sure that the sheet material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 9 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm.
Machining MDF tricoya sheets
Treating MDF tricoya is not necessary, but it is often done for a nice finish. With good treatment, it can even last for decades in outdoor applications. You do this by first priming the material and then coating it with a lacquer suitable for outdoor applications. The sheet edges are best treated with edge sealer before priming.
