Description by Roel

We made four pine doors at the bottom for our Ivar cupboard, to keep all the games and mess out of sight. There are some standard doors, but Ikea did not have the doors we were looking for and we also needed a different height to allow the robot vacuum cleaner to park under the cupboard. By using custom pine carpentry panels, we were able to make matching doors for our cupboard that are exactly to our wishes.

How I made this project

We had the shelves custom-made so that the seam between all four doors is the same when all doors are closed. At home we drilled holes for soft-closing kitchen hinges with a Forstner drill and two cross slats are screwed on each door to prevent warping of solid wood. Because the hinges did not fit on the cabinet frame, I glued some bobbins on them. The hinges could then be placed on this. When the doors are closed you cannot see these bobbins.

Dimensions of my DIY project

4 doors of 70.0 x 40.0 cm for two cabinet parts of 80.0 cm wide
