I built the "draper couch" from the wonderful website http://www.hartzivmoebel.de/. It was my first major wood project and I decided not to screw the body for aesthetic reasons, but to dowel it with L-connectors. It was also my first time using a dowel jig etc., but with my mother's help everything worked. The edge connections are not perfect, but perfect enough for a complete beginner. I then screwed the slatted frame and also used a lot of screws and angles for the feet. The construction plan for the couch is available to download for free on the website and I can only recommend it! Very beginner-friendly and relatively inexpensive. A child's mattress measuring 70.0 x 140.0 cm fits perfectly as upholstery.
I cut the ordered wood on a panel saw and table saw. Then I doweled and glued the body. For the L-connections I used a dowel jig and 8mm dowels. After everything was glued, I used tensioning straps to hold everything together and left it to dry overnight. The next day I screwed the "slatted frame" and screwed everything together. In total, we spent a day building it as a pair and then I spent another day on my own. To get additional stability, I installed the feet with a few brackets.
